NeuroActiveResearch is a Consultancy organisation highly specialised in the field of Epilepsy. All facets of Epilepsy are covered (EEG diagnosis, therapeutic interventions, epidemiology, prevention etc.).

A worldwide recognised specialty of NeuroActive Research is Photosensitivity, a socalled reflex type of epilepsy: flickering sunlight, (white or colored) artificial light and high contrast visual patterns can evoke epileptic seizures in a particular subgroup of people with epilepsy. Those who are sensitive to these stimuli, especially children and adolescents, are called photosensitive. The typical diagnostic procedure is using flashes of light of different frequencies during a standard Electroencephalogram. Over the past few decades, a study protocol (Proof of Concept) has been developed that enables the initial testing of new epilepsy medications in patients in a safe and elegant manner, with the ultimate goal of making new drugs available to all children and adults with epilepsy. Various medications have reached the market—or were rightly rejected due to insufficient efficacy or adverse effects—through this process.

Since 2001, Dorothee Kasteleijn-Nolst Trenite has served as Director, organizing such studies for various pharmaceutical companies; this involves acting as a consultant from the initial phase (methodology assessment) through to study completion (data evaluation and publication). Depending on the sponsor’s preferences, these studies take place in either Europe or the USA. Leveraging my scientific network, I select suitable centers (hospitals) and train the staff involved.
